The Guilty is a movie set to debut on Netflix October 1 of this year. To say the trailer was exciting is an understatement: it gave me chills down my spine. You can’t help but gasp for breath as the suspense kicked in. Here are the Top 5 reasons why I want to see The Guilty.
1. It’s an “Americanized” remake. The Guilty was a film made in Denmark which released in 2018. Although I haven’t seen the original, this version seems modernized. For one thing, it’s spoken in English. The original had the same mystery vibe to it, although the language was Danish. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the remake will exceed my expectations. I watched the trailer for the 2018 film and it gave me the same vibes too.
2. It’s like a “keep you guessing” mystery game. The Guilty is one of the rare films where the trailer doesn’t show the whole movie. So often, I’ve seen plenty of trailers where certain plot points are given away, giving off the vibe of spoiler warning. This trailer doesn’t do that. It ratchets up the suspense with each camera shot, making you wonder what is going on. I’m hoping this movie doesn’t disappoint.
3. The Guilty has a well known director and actor attached to it. The Guilty is directed by Antoine Fuqua who is famous for directing Training Day and The Equalizer. Ironically, both movies are violent and full of foul language. This movie is also rated R for language, but doesn’t seem violent. It’s kind of odd that Antoine Fuqua would direct a suspense-filled film. I really hope he pulls it off though.
Not only is a well-known director attached, but a famous actor too. Jake Gyllenhaal has starred in several Hollywood movies over the years from Brokeback Mountain to Prisoners. Also, The Guilty isn’t his first Netflix movie: in 2018, Gyllenhaal starred in the Netflix horror film Velvet Buzzsaw.
4. The Guilty uses camera shots to ratchet up the suspense. Several times in the trailer, I noticed multiple camera shots being used. One was a close up of Gyllenhaal’s character, another revealed a puzzled look on his face. That’s how you know The Guilty is going to deliver on the suspense factor.
5. The film is a puzzle. Like many mystery movies, The Guilty starts out as confusing. However, with each twist and turn, you find out that “nothing is what it seems.” I can’t wait to find out the whole truth at the film’s end.
Those are the five reasons The Guilty is on my watchlist. Stay updated because I will write a review on this film after seeing it on Netflix. October 1, here we come!
